| B: You don't have to do much. Just prepare a set of white clothes, and make your mind peaceful. You can go for as many days as you want, but it shouldn't be fewer than three days. The temple is near my home. If you want to go, I can take you there. |

| Ja: This phrase means “to hear that...” or “to get the news that...”. |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ |
| Ja: “ได้ dâai” is the verb “to be able”, but in this phrase it means “to get”. And “ข่าว khàao” means “news”. |
| Jing: “ได้ข่าวว่า dâai khàao wâa” will be followed by some statement or announcement. |
| Ja: And this is used more for saying that you heard about some important event or announcement. |
| Jing: ใช่ค่ะ่ ในเวลาปกติถ้าคุณอยากจะพูดว่า “I heard that...” ควรใช้คำว่า “ได้ยินว่า dâai-yin wâa”. |

| Ja: This phrase means “to practice Dharma”. |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ |
| Ja: “ปฏิบัติ bpà-dtì-bàt” is a verb that means “to practice”, “to perform”, or “to carry out”. “ธรรม thaam” is a noun that comes from the Sanskrit word “dharma”. |
| Jing: I think some listeners won’t know what is meant by dharma. |
| Ja: Right, the original meaning of dharma is “law” or “duty”, but this word was also used by the Buddha to describe his teaching |
| Jing: ใช่ค่ะ ในภาษาไทยเราใช้ในความหมายของ “ธรรม thaam” เป็น “the teaching of the Buddha”. และกลุ่มคำว่า “ปฏิบัติธรรม” หมายความว่า “to practice the teaching of the Buddha” or “to carry out Buddhist practices”. |

| GRAMMAR POINT |
| Ja: In this lesson, you’ll learn about doubling a word with distorted pronunciation for emphasis. |
| Jing: ใช่ค่ะ But in this case, we are not emphasizing a word to make it more important. |
| Ja: So instead, we’re emphasizing a word to make it less important? |
| Jing: ใชค่ะ Thai has a unique way of putting emphasis on a word in order to dismiss the importance of that word. |
| Ja: Alright, and usually we do this with nouns. |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ |
| Ja: Great. So what is the pattern? |
| Jing: เราพูดคำนี้ซ้ำ้สองครั้ง ครั้งที่หนึ่งเสียงของ syllable สุดท้ายจะเปลี่ยนไป |
| Ja: What does the sound change to? |
| Jing: The syllable will end with the sound “อ่ง òng”. |
| Ja: อ่ง òng. Alright, that doesn’t sound too hard. How about an example. |
| Jing: ยกตัวอย่างเช่น “เชียงใหม่” จะเปลี่ยนเป็น “เชียงหม่ง” |
| Ja: OK, so when you say it twice, how does it sound? |
| Jing: “เชียงหม่งเชียงใหม่ chiiang-mòng chiiang-mài” |
| Ja: And when you say it like this you’re trying to diminish the importance of that word. Maybe in English we would say something like “Chiang Mai-Shmiang Mai”. |
| Jing: ใช่ค่ะ ถ้าคุณพูดว่า “เชียงหม่งเชียงใหม่” ก็แสดงว่าคุณไม่ให้ความสนใจหรือไม่มีความประทับใจดีๆเกี่ยวกับเชียงใหม่ |
| Ja: And we can use this with pretty much any noun, right? |
| Jing: Yes, but it usually sounds better when the word has at least two syllables. |
| Ja: OK listeners, let’s see if you can guess how to say a few different words in this new style. Khru Jing, what’s the word for “Japan”? |
| Jing: “ญี่ปุ่น” |
| Ja: OK listeners, how would you say “ญี่ปุ่น yîi-bpùn” if you want to show that you’re not interested in it? |
| Jing: (pause) “ญี่ป่ง ญี่ปุ่น yîi-bpòng yîi-bpùn” |
| Ja: “Eh? Japan?” Did you get it right? How about another? |
| Jing: How about “น้ำเก๊กฮวย”. หมายความว่า “chrysanthemum drink”. |
| Ja: OK listeners, if you don’t care for “น้ำเก๊กฮวย náam-gék-huuai” you can call it... |
| Jing: (pause) น้ำเก๊กห่งเก๊กฮวย náam-gék-hòng gék-huuai |
| Ja: “chrysanthemum drink, or whatever!” Ok, and finally the dreaded homework. How do we say “homework” in Thai? |
| Jing: “การบ้าน” |
| Ja: So if you are sick of doing “การบ้าน gaan-bâan”, you can call it... |
| Jing: การบ่งการบ้าน gaan-bòng gaan-bâan |
| Ja: “Ugh...homework” |

Is this new year your unlucky year? I always think it's not so bad to have an unlucky year together with millions of others who share the same animal year of birth. Sometimes a year can be unlucky to as much as 3-4 animal years of birth! Maybe unlucky but not so lonely!

ตอนนี้ประโยคส่วนใหญ่ฉันยังต้องคิดในภาษาอังกฤษก่อนแปลถึงภาษาไทยได้ และยังต้องใช้พจนานุกรมบ่อยๆ เพราะมีกลุ่มคำและวลีในภาษาอังกฤษมากมายที่ยังไม่ค่อยรู้ว่าจะแปลเป็นภาษาไทยได้ยังไง
ปกติฉันจะอ่านตัวอย่างหลายตัวอย่างในพจนานุกรมเพื่อได้ความรู้สึกถึงแสดงความคิดหนึ่งในภาษาไทยได้ยังไง อืม...แต้เวลาส่วนใหญ่ฉันยังไม่ค่อยรู้ว่าฉันเขียนด้วยไวยกรณ์ที่ถูกต้องและเป็นธรรมชาติหรือเปล่า คุณครูอ่านแล้วคงงงไปหน่อย😅

ขอบคุณค่ะ อืม...ใช่ "มนุษชาติทั้งหมด" ท่าจะธรรมชาติดีกว่า เพราะวลีนี้ฉันได้การใช้จากตัวอย่างในพจนานุกรม ไม่ค่อยรู้ว่ามันเป็นการแสดงออกธรรมชาติหรือเปล่า 😅 และ"โคว่งโควิด"นี่แค่เป็นฉันที่พยายามฝึกฝนใช้จุดไวยกรณ์ในบทเรียนนี้ ฮาๆ
ที่จริงแล้วก็ไม่มีวิธีพิเศษอะไรบ้าง แค่ได้ใช้เวลาเรียนและฝึกฝนบ่อยๆ
มานานแล้ว โดยเฉพาะตอนความสามารถทางภาษาของฉันยังไม่ค่อยดี ฉันฝึกฝนแค่การอ่าน, การฟัง, และการพูดตามคำที่เขียนไว้แล้ว และใช้ซอฟท์แวร์เรี่ยกว่า "Anki" สำหรับเรียนรู้จดจำคำศัพท์และวลีใหม่ๆ
เมื่อเวลาผ่านไป ความเข้าใจทางภาษาไทยของฉันค่อยๆจะเรียนให้ดีขึ้นแล้ว แต่ฉันยังรู้สึกว่าไม่ค่อยสามารถแสดงความคิดของฉันในภาษาไทยได้คล่อง โดยเฉพาะความคิดที่ซับซ้อนกว่าหน่อย ก็เลยตัดสินใจฝึกฝนการเขียนด้วยกัน และเขียนคอเม็นสำหรับบทเรียนฉันว่าเป็นโอกาศฝึกฝันที่ดี

"โคว่ง" พจนานุกรมไม่ได้บอกว่า คำว่า "ชง" มาจากภาษาอื่นค่ะ อาจจะเป็นไปได้นะคะ ที่คุณว่ามาจำภาษาจีน เพราะประเทศไทยได้รับวัฒธรรมและคำพูดต่างๆจากจีนหลายอย่าง คำว่า เฮง กับ ซวย ฉันมั่นใจว่ามาจากภาษาจีนแน่ๆค่ะ
การเขียนภาษาไทยของคุณแทบจะไม่มีที่ติเลยค่ะ เก่งมากค่ะ ว่างๆมาแบ่งปันความรู้กับฉันบ้างนะคะ ว่าคุณมีวิธีเรียนยังไงบ้าง

ถึงฉันเป็นชาวจีน และทุกวันตรุษจีนในประเทศฉันก็มีป้ายอยู่ทุกทีที่มีการอธิบายเกี่ยวกับเรื่องฮวงจุ้ยและโชคของสัตว์ต่างๆในจักรราศีจีนในปีนั้น
แต่ฉันก็ไม่เชื่อสิ่งเหล่านี้เท่าไร ปีชงหรือปีโชคดี ยังไงก็ตาม เป็นไปไม่ได้ที่คนเราจะควบคุมทุกอย่างในชีวิตตัวเองได้ โดยเฉพาะในช่วงนี้ที่มีโควิด มันจะทำให้หลายคนในโลกเจ็บป่วย เป็นทุกข์ และสูณเสียคนที่รักและสิทธิอื่นๆ จนแทบจะพูดได้ว่าช่วงสองปีนี้อาจเป็นปีชงของมนุษยชาติทั้งละมั้ง โคว่งโควิดจริงๆ!
ว่าแต่ว่าไม่รู้ว่าคำว่า "ชง" มาจากภาษาจีนหรือเปล่า เสียงมันคล้ายกันกับคำว่า "沖" ในภาษาจีน คนเราจีนมีวลีว่า “沖太歲” (ช้งไท่ซ่วย)หมายความว่าราศีของคุณขัดกันกับเทพที่เรียกว่าไท่ซ่วยในปีนั้น ก็เลยกลายเป็นปีชง ถึงมันไม่เกี่ยวฉันคิดว่าความเหมือนกันน่าสนใจมากนะคะ
คำว่า"เฮง"และคำว่า"ซวย"เช่นกัน ทั้งสองคำค้ลายกันกับคำในภาษาจีนฮกเกี้ยนที่มีความหมายเหมือนกันนะคะ

I have seen a few grammar errors in previous lessons, but did not take the time to notify you. In this one, in the 3rd line from the bottom, which reads ". . .friends who are also work together. . ." there are 2 ways to fix the error. (1) delete "are" or (2) add "ing" to "work".
I much prefer the special subject multiple word lists to this type of lesson & the "Throwback Thursday" lessons because they show the Thai script as well as include the audio for each word or phrase. This lesson & the Throwback Thursday lessons do not have visual Thai script----& the audio is frequently unclear, which makes it hard for me to benefit. The daily word lessons are good too because they include the visual Thai script. I wish you would include the visual Thai script with Throwback Thursday lessons. That way, even with poor audio, I can follow. I am not concerned with English visual or audio translations.
