| Ben: Hey Khru Jing, what was your apartment like when you were a student? |
| Jing: Well, like most apartments in Thailand it was pretty small, you know. I just had one room with an attached bathroom and a little balcony. It was small, but I liked it because I had some friends who lived in the same building. |
| Ben: Oh that’s nice. Did you guys ever cook dinner together? |
| Jing: Umm, not really because my apartment didn’t have a kitchen. |
| Ben: Is that normal? |
| Jing: Yeah, actually it’s unusual for small apartments to have a kitchen. |
| Ben: So what did you do for food? |
| Jing: Oh, that was no problem at all. There were a lot of cheap restaurants and food carts right around the corner. There was also a mini-mart in the first floor of my building if I ever got a sudden urge for chocolate. |

| Ben: Let's have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
| Jing: The first phrase we’ll look at is.... |
| Jing: ได้ข่าวว่า dâi khàao wâa |
| Ben: This means “to have got the news that...” or “to have heard that...”. |
| Jing: That’s right. ได้ dâi in this phrase means “was possible” or “did happen”. ข่าว khàao is a noun meaning “news”, and ว่า wâa means “that”. |
| Ben: So it’s like saying “I did get the news that...” And then you need to follow it with whatever recent event you want to report on. What was the example from the conversation? |
| Jing: ได้ข่าวว่าจะย้ายที่พักเหรอจ๊ะ น้องพลอย |
| dâi khàao wâa jà yáai thîi-phák rǒoe já. náawng phlaawy. |
| Ben: “I heard that you’re going to move your place, Ploy.” |
| Alright, so what is the next phrase? |
| Jing: บ้านชั้นเดียว bâan chán diiao |
| Ben: This means “a one-story house”. |
| Jing: Yes. บ้าน bâan is the noun “house”, and ชั้น chán means “story”. Then เดียว diiao is an adjective that means “one” or “single”. But if the house had more than one story the word order would be a little different, right? |
| Jing: Yes, that’s right. The number would come before ชั้น chán. So that a two-story house would be บ้านสองชั้น bâan sǎawng chán. |
| Ben: And a three-story house would be บ้านสามชั้น bâan sǎam chán, right? |
| Jing: You got it! |
| Ben: OK, what’s next? |
| Jing: แค่นั้นก็พอ khâae nán gâaw phaaw |
| Ben: This phrase means “Just that is enough”. |
| Jing: Right. แค่ khâae means “just” or “only”, and นั้น means “that”. ก็ gâaw is just a connecting word, and พอ phaaw is the adjective “enough”. |
| Ben: So in the conversation, Ploy first described the kind of house she was looking to rent and followed that with this phrase... |
| Jing: แค่นั้นก็พอ khâae nán gâaw phaaw |
| Ben: And with that let’s move on now to the grammar section. |
Lesson focus |
| Ben: The focus of this lesson is แค่ khâae and ตั้ง dtâng used to express "only" and "as much as". |
| Jing: These two words are used in the exact same way but with opposite meanings. แค่ khâae means “only” or “just”, and ตั้ง dtâng means “as much as” or “so much”. |
| Ben: I see. Let’s start with the first one then. |
| Jing: OK. แค่ khâae can be put in front of a statement to emphasize that the speaker considers something to be a small quantity or amount. |
| Ben: What was an example from the conversation? |
| Jing: Ploy said to her boss... ก็ไม่เยอะมาก แค่ 200 ตัวค่ะ gâaw mâi yóe mâak. kâae sǎawng ráawy dtuua khâ. |
| Ben: “Well, not a whole lot. Only 200 shirts.” Is that right? |
| Jing: Yes. |
| Ben: Well, I have to tell you Khru Jing, I think Ploy is out of her mind if she thinks 200 shirts is a small amount. |
| Jing: Um, yes. I agree. So then you have to use the second word, ตั้ง dtâng. |
| Ben: Which means “as much as” |
| Jing: Right. ตั้ง dtâng also would go right before the amount. So that’s why Ploy’s boss replied with...มีเสื้อตั้ง 200 ตัว |
| mii sûuea dtâng sǎawng ráawy dtuua. |
| Ben: “You have 200 shirts!” or maybe you could say it like “You have a whole 200 shirts!?” |
| Ploy Yes. The number of shirts didn’t change. It’s just a difference of opinion between Ploy and her boss on what is a large number of shirts to own. |
| Ben: Did they disagree on anything else? |
| Jing: Yes, they did. Ploy’s boss thinks 15,000 baht is not expensive for rent, so the boss said...ไม่แพงด้วย แค่ 15,000 บาท |
| mâi phaaeng dûuai. khâae mùuen hâa phan bàat. |
| Ben: “It’s not expensive either. Only 15,000 baht.” But Ploy thinks it’s expensive. So she says... |
| Jing: ตั้ง 15,000 บาท |
| dtâng mùuen hâa phan bàat. |
| Ben: “As much as 15,000 baht!” |
| Jing: Exactly. |
| Ben: That's it for this lesson. Then see you next time! |

After completing the first two beginner levels OK, I'm finding this level very challenging. The sentences are long and a little complex for me. It feels like Intermediate level.

Thank you. Good question. They are not exchangeable. "บ้านชั้นเดียว" single story house is correct, not บ้านชั้นเดี่ยว no meaning, while บ้านเดี่ยว a single house (not town house). "I want a rented home in 1st floor" ผมอยากเช่าบ้านเดี่ยว ชั้นเดียว. ห้องเตียงเดียว not how we speak, we say ห้องเตียงเดี่ยว single bed room. We use เดียว when you talk or reply about how many floor the house have / how many bed does the room have?. Not a title or name. Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any future questions. I always get confused about เดียว and เดี่ยว. Thank you in advance for replying my following questions.
In this lesson, "บ้านชั้นเดียว" means one-story house; then, what's the meaning of บ้านชั้นเดี่ยว?
What if i want to express "I want a rented home in 1st floor"?
Besides above, can you give me some other examples of the same noun followed by เดียว and เดี่ยว, so I can more easily differentiate the usage, such as ห้องเตียงเดียว and ห้องเตียงเดี่ยว. Thank you!

Thank you very much for pointed out the mistake. Actually "เพิ่ม" and "ขึ้น" both mean to increase. So, the meaning still didn't change even if they didn't say "ขึ้น"
