| Ben: You can reserve tickets to go by Nok Air. It’s quick and comfortable. But if you want to see the lifestyle of hill tribes then going by car is more convenient. |

| Ben: Mae Hong Son has hill tribes such as Karen, Lahu, Hmong, etc. |

| Ben: That’s interesting. Well then, I think it will be better to go by van or to drive myself. |
| POST CONVERSATION BANTER |
| Ben: Hey Khru Jing, have you ever gone to visit one of the hill tribe villages? |
| Jing: No I haven’t. But I think it would be really interesting to do. |
| Ben: Why do they all live up in the hills anyways? |
| Jing: I think it’s because of the type of agriculture they do. You know, most of the hill tribes started out in Burma and China and just migrated down into Thailand in the past few hundred years. |
| Ben: Oh, I didn’t know that. I guess I just thought they had always been around. |
| Jing: Anyways, I think they adapted to living in the mountains because Thai people were already occupying all the flat land in the valleys for growing rice. |
| Ben: I heard that some of the tribes grow opium. Is that true? |
| Jing: Well, some of them used to. But over the past few decades the effort to get them to switch to other crops has been successful. Any opium these days is probably grown over the border. |
| Ben: I see. Well, now let’s take a look at the vocabulary. |

| Ben: Let's have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
| Jing: The first phrase we’ll look at is.... |
| อะไรบ้าง à-rai bâang |
| Ben: This means “what are some?” |
| Jing: Yes, that’s right. อะไร à-rai is the question word “what?”, and บ้าง bâang means “some”. |
| Ben: So, when you ask someone a question with อะไรบ้าง à-rai bâang it means you want to hear a list of items for the answer, is that right? |
| Jing: That’s right. In the conversation we had this example...จะได้เจอชาวเขาเผ่าอะไรบ้างครับ jà dâai jooe chaao-khǎo phào à-rai bâang khráp. |
| Ben: “What are some hill tribes we’ll see?” so then the answer obviously would include a list of some of the tribes. Alright, what is the next phrase? |
| Jing: ขับรถไปเอง khàp rót bpai eeng |
| Ben: This phrase means “to drive a car on your own.” |
| Jing: Yes. ขับรถ khàp rót means “to drive a car”. ไป bpai is “to go”, and เอง eeng means “individually” or “by oneself”. |
| Ben: So does that mean you are the only person in the car? |
| Jing: No, that’s not really the intended meaning. ขับรถไปเอง khàp rót bpai eeng doesn't mean you’re all alone in the car. It just means that you will choose to drive a vehicle yourself rather than ride in a bus or other something else with a professional driver. |
| Ben: OK, now I understand. And what is the final phrase? |
| Jing: วิถีชีวิต wí-thǐi chíi-wít |
| Ben: This means “way of life” or “lifestyle”. |
| Jing: วิถี wí-thii is a noun meaning “path” or “way”, and ชีวิต chíi-wít is another noun meaning “life”. |
| Ben: I see. So วิถีชีวิต wí-thǐi chíi-wít is like the “path you follow in life”. |
| Jing: Something like that, yes. |
| Ben: Alright then, now let’s move on to the grammar section. |

| Ben: The focus of this lesson is นั่ง nâng and โดย dooi used to indicate a method of travel. |
| Jing: นั่ง nâng is actually the verb “to sit”. It is used often in everyday speech with the name of a type of vehicle following it. |
| Ben: What was an example from the conversation? |
| Jing: We had the sentence...ไม่รู้ว่าจะนั่งเครื่องบิน หรือขับรถไปเองดี |
| mâi rúu wâa jà nâng khrûueang-bin rǔue khàp rót bpai eeng dii. |
| Ben: “I don’t know if flying or driving there myself is better.” So in that sentence, นั่งเครื่องบิน nâng khrûueang-bin means “to sit in an airplane” or “to ride in an airplane”. |
| Jing: That’s right. And the same pattern works for any number of other modes of transportation. |
| Ben: OK, give us some more examples. |
| Jing: Sure. How about นั่งรถตู้ nâng rót-dtûu |
| Ben: “ride in a van” |
| Jing: นั่งรถแท็กซี่ nâng rót-tháek-sîi |
| Ben: “ride in a taxi” |
| Jing: นั่งเรือ nâng ruuea |
| Ben: “ride in a boat” |
| Jing: and นั่งรถไฟ nâng rót-fai |
| Ben: “ride in a train”. Now, we said there was a different word we can use instead of นั่ง nâng. What was it again? |
| Jing: The other term we can use is โดย dooi, which means “by” or “via”. |
| Ben: Is it used for different situations? |
| Jing: โดย dooi is more formal and won’t be used as often in regular speech. It is more commonly seen in writing. |
| Ben: OK, I see. What examples from the conversation did we have? |
| Jing: The first example was... ถ้าคุณอยากเห็นวิถีชีวิตของชาวเขาไปโดยรถยนต์จะสะดวกกว่า |
| thâa khun yàak hěn wí-thǐi chíi-wít khǎawng chaao-khǎo bpai dooi rót-yon jà sà-dùuak gwàa. |
| Ben: “If you want to see the lifestyle of hill tribes then going by car is more convenient.” So the key phrase there was... |
| Jing: โดยรถยนต์ dooi rót-yon |
| Ben: “By car”. Was there another example? |
| Jing: Yes. For the next example we use the name of the actual airline instead of just the type of vehicle. The sentence was...จองตั๋วไปโดยสายการบินนกแอร์ได้ค่ะ |
| jaawng dtǔua bpai dooi sǎai gaan-bin nók-aae dâai khâ. |
| Ben: “You can reserve tickets to go by Nok Air.” |
| Jing: That’s right. The key phrase there was โดยสายการบินนกแอร์ dooi sǎai gaan-bin nók-aae, which means “by Nok Air”. |

คนที่กินเจ ไม่ควรรับประทานรสจัดเกินไป เช่น เผ็ดจัด เค็มจัด ขมจัด เปรี้ยวจัด หวานจัด
"Vegetarians should not eat food with strong tastes, for example, [food that is] very hot, very salty, very bitter, very sour, or very sweet."
คนกินเจควรดื่มน้ำผลไม้สด ๆ ตามธรรมชาติ เช่น น้ำส้มน้ำมะเขือเทศ น้ำสับปะรด น้ำอ้อย น้ำมะพร้าว ฯลฯ
"Vegetarians should drink fresh, natural fruit juice, for example, orange juice, tomato juice, pineapple juice, sugar cane juice, coconut juice, and others."

When you say ยกตัวอย่าง must follow by เช่น and it means "such as; for example"
ได้แก่ is an equal sign, and means "namely...; with respect to...; that is..."
According to these two word are really similar so sometime you could use them interchangeably. You will mostly see them when you read a book, but if you hear it would be the word เช่น or อย่างเช่น follow by list of things.
