| Ohm: Can you think of any tips for our listeners who might visit Thailand in the rainy season? |
| Ja: Well, first I'd say don't leave your house or hotel without taking a little fold-up umbrella, even if it looks sunny in the morning. |
| Ohm: Yes, when it's monsoon season, the rain can come pretty suddenly in the late afternoon. |
| Ja: Also, make sure that you always keep a rain poncho handy under the seat of your motorbike if you're riding one. |
| Ohm: Right, nothing feels worse than having to drive through the rain in wet clothes. A poncho can make a big difference. |
| Ja: And you can get one cheaply at any convenience store. |

| Ohm: ไว้ |
| Ja: This verb means "to keep" or "to place." It usually follows another verb to indicate that the action is done in a manner that keeps something preserved in a certain way. |
| Ohm: In the conversation, the object—the living room design—was left somewhere because it was forgotten. |
| Ja: And what was the sentence? |
| Ohm: แต่ลืมไว้ที่บ้านอีกแล้ว (dtaae luuem wái thîi bâan ìik láaeo.) |
| Ja: "But I forgot it at home again." |
| Ohm: ลืม (luuem) is the verb "to forget," so ลืมไว้ (luuem wái) has a sense of "to forget an item that is left somewhere." |

| Ja: This can act as either an adjective or adverb and means "tiny" or "a little bit." |
| Ohm: Right. หน่อย can follow adjectives or verbs to lessen their intensity. For example, in the conversation there was the sentence, ต้องรีบหน่อยนะ (dtâwng rîip nàuy ná). |
| Ja: Meaning, "You need to hurry up a little." |
| Ohm: Without หน่อย (nàuy), the sentence would be closer in meaning to, "You must hurry." |
| Ja: This word also has another use because it lessens the strength of a verb. So it can go at the end of a request to make it sound more polite. |
| Ohm: Yes. For example, ช่วยหน่อย (chûuai nàuy). |
| Ja: "Please help." What's our last vocabulary? |
| Ohm: ฝนตก |
| Ja: This is the verb "to rain," and it's composed of two parts. |
| Ohm: First is ฝน (fǒn), which is the noun for "rain." The second part is the verb ตก (dtòk), meaning "to fall." |
| Ja: In many cases, the two parts of this verb will be split up when other words are added to the sentence. |
| Ohm: Yes, we can split it up so that ฝน acts as the noun and ตก acts separately as the verb. For example, ฝนยังไม่ตก (fǒn yang mâi dtòk). |
| Ja: "It’s not raining yet." |
| Ohm: Or another one is the question, ฝนจะตกมั้ย (fǒn jà dtòk mái). |
| Ja: "Will it rain?" Okay, now on to the grammar. |

| Ohm: To express the idea of something happening "again," we can use the word อีก (ìik) as an adverb. |

| Ja: Meaning, "I want to watch it again." |
| Ohm: ดู is the verb "to watch," so ดูอีก means "to watch again." |
| Ja: What else should we know about using this word? |
| Ohm: Often, the word แล้ว (láaeo), meaning "already" will follow อีก (ìik). This is done for emphasis, usually expressing dissatisfaction. |
| Ja: And this was the way it appeared in a couple of sentences in the conversation. |
| Ohm: Right. One example was, เสร็จแล้ว แต่ลืมไว้ที่บ้านอีกแล้ว (sèt láaeo. dtaae luuem wái thîi bâan ìik láaeo). |
| Ja: "It's finished, but I forgot it at home again." Did we have any more? |
| Ohm: Yes, there was also the sentence, ต้องรีบหน่อยนะ ฝนจะตกอีกแล้ว (dtâwng rîip nàwy ná. fǒn jà dtòk ìik láaeo). |
| Ja: "You need to hurry up a little. It's going to rain again." |
| Ohm: In this example, the phrase ฝนจะตก (fǒn jà dtòk) literally means "rain will fall." Then the phrase อีกแล้ว (ìik láaeo) follows. |
| Ja: And so that's like saying "again," but with a little added emphasis. |
| Ohm: Right. |
| Ja: What else should we know? |
| Ohm: อีก (ìik) can also be used in a sentence to mean "another" or "more." For example, เอาข้าวอีกหนึ่งจาน (ao khâao ìik nùeng jaan). |
| Ja: "I'll have another plate of rice." What if I want to ask somebody else if they want more rice? |
| Ohm: You can use อีก too for that, but you need to begin the sentence with the verb เอา (ao) meaning "to take," and end it with the question particle มั้ย (mái). |
| Ja: So that would give us... |
| Ohm: เอาข้าวอีกมั้ย (ao khâao ìik mái.) |
| Ja: "Would you like more rice?" |
| Ohm: The key part of this sentence is เอา...อีก (ao...ìik). |
| Ja: Which means "to take more." |
