(phim: laa-gàawn. dooen-thaang bplàawt-phai ná.)
ไรอัน: ไปล่ะนะ ดูแลตัวเองดีดีนะ
(rai-an: bpai lâ ná. duu-laae dtuua-eeng dii dii ná.)

(phim: laa-gàawn. dooen-thaang bplàawt-phai ná.)
ไรอัน: ไปล่ะนะ ดูแลตัวเองดีดีนะ
(rai-an: bpai lâ ná. duu-laae dtuua-eeng dii dii ná.)
Ryan: Now once again, with the English.
พิม: ลาก่อน เดินทางปลอดภัยนะ
(phim: laa-gàawn. dooen-thaang bplàawt-phai ná.)
Pim: Goodbye. Have a safe trip.
ไรอัน: ไปล่ะนะ ดูแลตัวเองดีดีนะ
(rai-an: bpai lâ ná. duu-laae dtuua-eeng dii dii ná.)
Ryan: Goodbye. Please take care.
POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Ryan: Pim, why are the listeners going to learn faster.
Pim: Well, we’re going to listen to the conversation three times. The first time is at a natural speed, the second time is slow, and the third time is with the English translation.
Ryan: Yes, the first time is at natural native speed so you can get used to Thai used in the real world. The second time, the slow version, is so that you can follow the pronunciation 100 percent. And the third time, which is with the translation, is so that you can fully grasp and understand the conversation.
Pim: Okay, so let’s listen in. This conversation is a really useful conversation. Really, really useful. It’s simple but very common and useful.
Ryan: Yeah, but if this conversation is below your level, we have all level types from absolute beginner all the way to advanced. And to get all the material you want, beginner, maybe intermediate lessons or advanced lessons, the best tool to use is My Feed.
Pim: If you use My Feed, you can choose all the lessons that are important to you, you pick what you want and then you can download it all automatically in iTunes.
Ryan: Or any other podcatcher. Okay? After learning the conversation, let’s go over the finer points of some words and phrases. What’s the first?
VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Pim: ลาก่อน (laa-gàawn)
Ryan: “Goodbye”. And can you help us with our listening?
Pim: ลาก่อน (laa-gàawn), ลาก่อน (laa-gàawn).
Ryan: Next we have…
Pim: เดินทางปลอดภัยนะ (dooen-thaang bplàawt-phai ná)
Ryan: “Have a safe trip.” And what’s the pronunciation?
Pim: เดินทางปลอดภัยนะ (dooen-thaang bplàawt-phai ná), เดินทางปลอดภัยนะ (dooen-thaang bplàawt-phai ná).
Ryan: All right. What we have next is another goodbye.
Pim: ไปล่ะนะ (bpai lâ ná)
Ryan: “Goodbye”.
Pim: ไปล่ะนะ (bpai lâ ná), ไปล่ะนะ (bpai lâ ná)
Ryan: So can you please tell us what the difference between ลาก่อน (laa-gàawn) and ไปล่ะนะ (bpai lâ ná) is?
Pim: Sure. Literally ไปล่ะนะ (bpai lâ ná) means “I'm leaving”. So to say this phrase, you definitely have to be the one who is leaving, while the word ลาก่อน (laa-gàawn) can be used by either one who is staying or leaving.
Ryan: All right. So, Pim, what’s our last phrase?
Pim: ดูแลตัวเองดีดีนะ (duu-laae dtuua-eeng dii dii ná)
Ryan: Please take care. Can you break it down, please?
Pim: ดูแลตัวเองดีดีนะ (duu-laae dtuua-eeng dii dii ná), ดูแลตัวเองดีดีนะ (duu-laae dtuua-eeng dii dii ná).
Ryan: Now, please take care is a translation, but what does this phrase literally mean?
Pim: It means “please look after yourself well”, so it can only be used when you won't see the person for a long time.
Ryan: Okay, now let’s go over the pronunciation of both goodbyes really quickly. What’s the one you use when you’re leaving and the other person is staying? “I'm leaving”…
Pim: ไปล่ะนะ (bpai lâ ná)
Ryan: What’s the one you use when you’re staying and the other person is leaving? “Goodbye”.
Pim: ลาก่อน (laa-gàawn)

Outro

Ryan: It’s perfect to use when you’re seeing someone off at an airport, and you won't be seeing someone for a long time, but you can't really use it when you’ll see them the next day. And, listeners, please be sure you say the right one when you’re standing at the airport and saying goodbye to your friends. All right, if you have any questions on how to use certain words, if you’re confused on a certain grammar point, visit the site and leave us a comment.
Pim: Yes. The teachers here at ThaiPod101.com are really quick to respond.
