Hi everyone! I'm Alisha. |
Welcome to Conversational Phrases! |
We've found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you'll use in real conversations. |
In this lesson, you'll learn conversational phrases to use when apologizing to someone. After watching this video, you'll be able to apologize and say what you're apologizing for. |
Now, let's take a look at some conversational phrases! |
Listen to the dialogue. |
ฉันขอโทษที่มาสาย (chǎn khǎaw thôot thîi maa-săai) |
อย่ากังวลไปเลย (yàa gang-won bpai looei) |
Once more with the English translation. |
ฉันขอโทษที่มาสาย (chǎn khǎaw thôot thîi maa-săai) |
“I'm sorry for being late.” |
อย่ากังวลไปเลย (yàa gang-won bpai looei) |
“Don't worry about it.” |
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "I'm sorry for [reason]." |
The pattern is: |
ฉันขอโทษที่ [reason] (chǎn khǎaw thôot thîi [reason]) |
This Thai sentence literally translates as "I apologize that [reason]." But it means "I'm sorry for [reason].". |
For example: |
"I'm sorry for being late." |
ฉันขอโทษที่มาสาย, ฉันขอโทษที่มาสาย (chǎn khǎaw thôot thîi maa-săai, chǎn khǎaw thôot thîi maa-săai) |
Now, how do you respond that it's okay? |
อย่ากังวลไปเลย (yàa gang-won bpai looei) |
"Don't worry about it." |
Listen to it again: |
อย่ากังวลไปเลย, อย่ากังวลไปเลย (yàa gang-won bpai looei, yàa gang-won bpai looei) |
This Thai sentence translates as "Don't worry go at all." But it means "Don't worry about it." |
