| Hello! Welcome back to Thai Words. You’re with me again. I’m Jay and today we are going to do 10 phrases for bad students. Okay, let’s begin! |
| 1. กลั่นแกล้ง (glàn glâaeng) “to bully” |
| กลั่นแกล้ง (glàn glâaeng) or to bully someone. |
| ตอนเด็กๆฉันโดนเพื่อนๆกลั่นแกล้ง (dton dèk dèk chán doon phûuean phûuea glàn glâaeng) |
| “When I was young, I was bullied by my friends.” |
| It’s just an example, it’s not true. |
| 2. ขี้เกียจ (khîi gìiat) “lazy” |
| ชั้นขี้เกียจทำการบ้านเลยบอกแม่ว่าชั้นปวดท้อง (chán khîi gìiat tham gaan bâan looei bàawk mâe wâa chán bpùuat tháawng) “I'm lazy to do my homework; that's why I told my mum that I have a stomachache.” |
| Very, very bad. You shouldn’t do it. |
| 3. ไม่ทำการบ้าน (mâi tham gaan bâan) “to not do homework” |
| ฉันโดนแม่ตีเพราะฉันไม่ทำการบ้าน (chán doon mâe dtii phráw chán mâi tham gaan bâan) “I got punished by my mum because I didn’t do my homework.” |
| 4. ซ้ำชั้น (sám chán) “to fail a class” |
| ชั้นไม่ได้อ่านหนังสือชั้นเลยซ้ำชั้น (chán mâi dâi àan năng-sǔue chán looei sám chán) “Because I did not study for the exam so I failed the class.” |
| 5. ผัดวันประกันพรุ่ง (phàt-wan-bprà-gan-phrûng) “procrastinate” |
| เธอไม่ควรจะผัดวันประกันพรุ่งเพราะมันเป็นนิสัยที่ไม่ดี (thooe mâi khuuan jà phàt-wan-bprà-gan-phrûng phráw man bpen ní-săi thîi mâi dii) “You should not procrastinate because it is a bad habit.” |
| I think this word is not only for bad students, but for everyone. |
| 6. ลอกผลงาน (lâawk phŏn ngaan) “plagiarism” |
| Or in more simple word, to copy other people’s work. |
| การลอกผลงานคนอื่นเป็นพฤติกรรมที่น่าอับอาย (gaan lâawk phŏn ngaan khon ùuen bpen phrûet-dtì-gam thîi nâa àp aai) “Plagiarism is a shameful act.” |
| 7. หลับในห้องเรียน (làp nai hâawng riian) “sleep in class” |
| I sleep in a class all the time. In Thailand, school starts at 8:00 o’clock every day and because of the traffic that’s why I have to wake up very early to get to the school on time. That’s why I always sleep in the class when I was young, but that’s okay. That’s a long time ago. |
| 8. หาเรื่องทะเลาะ (hăa rûueang thá-láw) “start a fight” |
| เด็กคนนั้นชอบหาเรื่องทะเลาะกับฉันเพราะเค้าไม่ชอบชั้น |
| (dèk khon nán châawp hăa rûueang thá-láw gàp chán phráw kháo mâi châawp chán) |
| “That kid always starts a fight with me because he doesn’t like me.” |
| 9. โกงข้อสอบ (goong kâaw sàawp) “to cheat on a test” |
| คุณครูเรียกผู้ปกครองของเด็กคนนั้นมาหาเพราะเด็กคนนั้นโกงข้อสอบ (khun-khruu rîiak phûu bpòk khraawng khǎawng dèk khon nán maa hăa phráw dèk khon nán goong kâaw sàawp) “The teacher called the parents of that kid because he cheated on the test.” |
| It’s a big no-no anywhere in the world. It’s unacceptable right? |
| 10. มาเรียนสาย (maa riian săai) “late for class” |
| ขอโทษนะคะ ขอโทษนะคะคุณครู เผอิญว่ารถมันติดมากก็เลยมาสาย ขอโทษจริงๆนะคะ (khǎaw-thôot nà khá khǎaw-thôot nà khá khun-khruu phà-ooen wâa rót man dtìt mâak gâaw looei maa săai khǎaw-thôot jing jing ná khá). |
