Eric: Here's the way to say "I don't have a pen." in Thai.
Jay: [Normal] ฉันไม่มีปากกา(chǎn mâi mii pàak-gaa)
Eric: First is a pronoun meaning "I"
Jay: [Normal] ฉัน [Slow] ฉัน (chǎn)
Eric: Next is the word meaning “not”
Jay: [Normal] ไม่ [Slow] ไม่(mâi)
Eric: Next is the verb meaning “to have“
Jay: [Normal] มี [Slow] มี(mii)

Jay: Let’s imagine your colleague has invited you to watch a movie with him or her. If you want to answer in the negative but without being too direct, you can use “Sorry, I can’t go” which is khǎaw-thôot khà, dì-chǎn bpai mâi dâai khà instead of mâi bpai khà meaning “I won’t go.”
