In today's lesson, we'll introduce you to the phrase that you will need on several occasions! We all know you want to see the sights in Thailand and this phrase is essential to plan your day. |
In Thai, "What time does it open?" is bpòoet gìi-moong. |
bpòoet gìi-moong |
Let’s break it down by syllable: bpòoet gìi-moong. |
Now, let’s hear it once again, bpòoet gìi-moong. |
Don’t hesitate to be a little more polite when you ask people a question. |
Therefore, women say bpòoet gìi-moong khá. |
bpòoet gìi-moong khá |
And men say bpòoet gìi-moong khráp. |
bpòoet gìi-moong khráp |
The first word, bpòoet, means "open" followed by gìi-moong, which means "what time." khá or khráp is added to make this phrase more polite. Therefore, bpòoet gìi-moong khá and bpòoet gìi-moong khráp literally mean "What time does it open?" |
It's also really important to know when places close! The worst thing to encounter is a closed sign hanging in front of a place you wanted to see! But if you don't see any of those signs, you may like to ask. |
In Thai, "What time does this close?" is bpìt gìi-moong. |
bpìt gìi-moong |
Let’s break it down by syllable: bpìt gìi-moong. |
Now, let’s hear it once again, bpìt gìi-moong. |
Again, you may like to be polite. |
Therefore, women say bpìt gìi-moong khá. |
bpìt gìi-moong khá |
And men say bpìt gìi-moong khráp. |
bpìt gìi-moong khráp |
This phrase is very easy and similar to the phrase we just learned, except that we have the word bpìt which means "close" in substitute to the word bpòoet which means "open." |
Most of the shopping malls in Thailand opens at around 10 in the morning and close at 10 at night. For museums or government-run place, it usually opens early morning from 8:30 and closes at 4 in the evening. |
